Located on Jaru and Gija country, it’s been around for 350 million years, but the striking Bungle Bungle Range in World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park was a secret from the outside world until 1983. Today, this maze of orange and black striped sandstone domes, often likened to giant beehives, is one of the Kimberley’s best-loved attractions. Departing Broome, we track east over the beautiful turquoise waters of Roebuck Bay.
Overfly the mighty Fitzroy River, the Fitzroy Crossing township and the stunning Geikie Gorge. Arriving into Halls Creek, enjoy refreshments and a comfort stop before flying to Purnululu National Park. Before landing at the remote Bellburn airstrip, fly the scenic pattern around the Bungle Bungle Massif and marvel at the beauty from above. On arrival, you will be met by your tour guide from Kingfisher Tours for some light refreshments, before travelling to the beehives in an air-conditioned 4WD bus with stops along the way for spectacular photo opportunities. Enjoy a moderate 3km guided walk amongst the famous eroded towers and black and orange banded bee hive structures. Enjoy a local bush tucker loop and a walk into the awe-inspiring Cathedral Gorge and then the Lookout for some of the best views of the park. A light pack is provided with your drinks and lunch to be enjoyed in Cathedral Gorge. On your return to the airstrip, there is time for a beer or wine before the scenic flight back to Broome. As we track back to Broome, fly over the spectacular Wunaamin Miliwundi, Devonian Reef Conservation Park and Windjana Gorge. A reasonable level of fitness and sturdy foot wear is required.~~~~ |
